Ways to De-stress in College
Hey friends! As the end of the college semester is approaching, it can be easy to become stressed and anxious. Being college students ourselves, we know the feeling of cramming for tests and just feeling overwhelmed by school, work, and even life. Today’s blog post is dedicated to all things stress and just simple ways to help feel less overwhelmed!
1. Listen to Music
The first way to de-stress is to listen to music. Music can be a way to feel all sorts of emotions and is like a cleanse to the mind. My favorite thing to do when I am feeling overwhelmed is to turn on my Spotify playlist. Everyone that knows me knows I am always listening to music, whether it is in the background while I am studying, reading, or even while I am falling asleep at night. Our go-to artists include Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Harry Styles, Gracie Abrams, Quinn xcii, The Beatles, Queen, and Olivia Rodrigo.
2. Journal
Another way to de-stress is by journaling. I personally feel most calm when I am bullet journaling. This is a way for me to get my thoughts out while being creative. I don’t know why, but I find drawing and outlining things satisfying and a huge stress reliever. Aside from bullet journaling, writing in a notebook or a journal is another great way to just get your thoughts out and will help you feel a lot better.
3. Have a Relaxation Night
The next tip to help de-stress is to take a shower, put on comfy clothes, and watch a show or movie. I know this might sound like a silly idea, especially during finals week or at a busy time in life, but trust me, this will help relieve so much anxiety and stress! This is the perfect relaxation night and is my go-to kind of evening. To add to this, light a good smelling candle and find a good Netflix show to binge! Some of my favorite shows include The Vampire Diaries, Grey’s Anatomy, New Girl, and Friends.
4. Bake
Another way to de-stress is to bake something. Everyone deals with stress differently, but I know a lot of people who find baking as a comfort hobby. Baking is a great way to get your mind off what is bugging you and to focus your attention on something else. Baking also results in a yummy treat which is also a plus 😉
5. Workout
A great way to de-stress is by going on a run/walk or doing any sort of physical activity. After being in cross country for six years, I have learned that running is such a helpful stress reliever. If you are ever feeling down, try going on a run and I promise you will probably run faster and longer than you normally would. Working out is another great way to get your anger out and you are also working out, so it is a two-in-one deal!
6. Plan Out Your Week
Lastly, having a planner is a must for any college student and it helps keep track of everything. I use mine on the daily. I know a lot of people also use online calendars (google calendar) and planners to keep track of their busy schedule. I like to buy the Bluesky calendars at Target at the beginning of the semester to keep everything organized. My favorite part of planning and writing a to-do list is crossing off stuff that I have completed! It makes me feel accomplished and is a great feeling!
