College Boho Room Makeover
Last summer, I moved into my first college apartment, eeekkk! I was so excited and couldn’t wait to start the decorating process! Before I knew it, I had Amazon, Target, and Urban Outfitters packages arriving at my front door. Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE to shop, especially for decor. I had some room ideas in my head of what I wanted my space to look like. I was (and still am) loving the boho trend. I love anything rattan and tried to incorporate that into my room as much as possible. My room is definitely my favorite space in my apartment and I love the finished look! This picture shows some of my favorite pieces and describes my style perfectly.
For the gold shelf, I salvaged it from my Grandpas attic! It looks so cute in my room and the best part was it was FREE! For my white dresser I turned it into a DIY project and went to work (with the help of my parents). I love how bright it makes my room look! I styled my little “gallery wall” with a white wire photo grid (I got gifted to me) and a rattan mirror from the target dollar section (SCORE!!). The rattan mirror is a cheaper version of the trendy UO ones for a fraction of the cost! In the picture you can see I also have a blanket ladder in the corner. Adding a blanket ladder makes the room a bit more homey. Blanket ladders are usually found in more farmhouse style decor but I think it fits my room and style perfectly. I need some place to hang all my blankets!
The next area I started to decorate was my bed! I went with a simple white comforter from Tjmaxx because I knew I would have enough color everywhere else around my room. As you can see, I love the color blush pink! I picked some throw pillows that would tie in with the rest of my room. They were all super cheap and make my room so homey. For the shelf above my bed, I went to Menards and got a piece of wood and some brackets and made it into a shelf! It is super sturdy and was under $10! WIN WIN!! I got shelf decor at Target and Hobby Lobby. The moon banner underneath my shelf is from Urban Outfitters and I got it for 50% off! UO usually has home decor deals so be on the lookout for when they run their sales!! Next, is my macrame hanging. My boyfriend actually gave it to me for my birthday and it fits perfect in this space. Amazon is definitely the place to get all things macrame. They have so much to chose from! It is the perfect size and color for this wall. Moving on to this little cutie corner. There is an awkward space between my bed and closet, so figuring out what to place there was a challenge. I decided to utilize the space by placing a chair with a boho pillow. Although the chair is mostly for looks because it’s not super sturdy (learned from experience), it works good in this space. I also added a shower curtain I used in my dorm for the closet curtain. Lastly, we move on to my favorite wall in my room!
As you can tell my room has ALOT of stuff (especially pink!!!) I had this open wall and wasn’t sure how to utilize the space at first. After getting some inspo and staring at a white wall long enough, I decided on 3 frames! A good word of advice when hanging prints (that aren’t related to each other) is to do an odd number. First off, it is easier to hang with 3 frames and second, it promotes more interest! I got 2 sets of a 2 pack of frames at Michael’s with a mat size of 11×14. I chose frames with a mat so it took up more space on my wall! I picked out these prints from Etsy for $12 total! The best part is I can reuse these frames in the future or swap out my prints.
Underneath the frames I have my favorite little piece in my room, my cute pink ottoman/bench! This is a storage bench and fits perfectly in this space! It was more on the pricey side but it was WORTH it. I love it in my room and its 100% my style. I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond.
Here is a better picture of my room after it was (almost) complete. Yes, I do have a desk because this is my COLLEGE apartment haha. I promise I actually do homework! I also have a 4×4 jute circle rug in my room which is the best and fits the boho vibes. 10/10 recommend for anyone looking for a simple rug.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my room and hopefully it sparks some interest for your own room!
